Without having to travel very far from the city of San Sebastián de la Gomera, you can enjoy the beaches, such as San Sebastián Beach, Cave Beach, Guancha Beach, among many others that are near the city and throughout the entire island.
Take a walk and visit the traditional village of Chejelipes, located in the La Villa gully with its mere 40 inhabitants. Visit La Gomera Archeological Museum, where you can take a journey from the present to the past by going through the three floors of the museum.
Since the city’s downtown area is so small, you won’t even need transportation to take a tour of downtown, where you can see The Cathedral and The Count’s Tower; the latter is the only medieval fortification still standing and is the oldest Hispanic-era building in the city; it’s also home to a 16th century reliquary. Admire the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption (Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción), which was built over the remains of an ancient hermitage and which has spectacular frescos inside that commemorate the victory of the Gomerans over the invaders. The building was renovated during the second half of the 18th century. Or take a short five-minute walk to the port where you can catch a ride on the island’s buses or the catamarans that go all the way to Christian Port (Puerto de los Cristianos) in Tenerife.
