After the blistering heat of Jodhpur you"ll be glad for the climb in altitude and decrease in temperature. On the other side of Udaipur is Chittorgarh, an old fort that can break your journey if you"re group is planning to make a loop back up to Jaipur.
Heading west you"ll travel through the Thar Desert on your way to Jaisalmer, a desert city with a golden sandstone fort built in 1156. Spend any time in the city and you"ll soon feel you"ve gone a few centuries back in time. Just 40km from here are a series of famous sand dunes which are your groups chance to go on a camel safari.
By rented minibus it"s a 6 hour drive to Jaipur, however there are a number of detours you will want to consider. Almost directly on route it Pushkar, an old desert town where legend has it that Lord Shiva shed his tears when his wife died. Further east is Bundi, a gentle oasis where the red desert earth meets the green tropical scenery of inner India.
